The Ontario government has now passed Bill 109, the Employment and Labour Statute Law Amendment Act, 2015 (“the Act”). As outlined in our previous In A Flash (http://www.mathewsdinsdale.com/bill-109), the passing of the Act results in significant changes to various labour and employment statutes with respect to Injured Workers, Public Sector Workers and Firefighters. The changes include:
Further changes will also result from the passing of the Budget Measures Act, 2015, which will result in the indexing of all partial WSIB benefits for all workers in Ontario (regardless of date of injury).
There are also significant changes coming to the leadership at the WSIB in 2016. President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Marshall, is stepping down, and will be replaced by Mr. Thomas Teahen. Mr. Teahen was previously the Chief Corporate Services Officer at the WSIB, and most recently was serving as Chief of Staff to Ontario’s Premier.
Also stepping down (retiring) in 2016 is the WSIB’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. John Slinger. Mr. Slinger will be replaced by Ms. Donna Bain, who will take over as Acting Chief Operating Officer.
