On December 13, 2007, Bill 29, the Occupational Health and Safety Amendment Act (Harassment and Violence), 2007, was introduced in the Ontario Legislature. If ultimately passed, the Bill would amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act such that employers would be required to protect workers from harassment and violence in the workplace. Pursuant to this Bill, workers faced with harassment or violence in the workplace would have the right, in certain circumstances, to refuse work. In addition, the Ministry of Labour would have the authority to conduct an investigation into allegations of harassment and violence in the workplace and make orders regarding the prevention of such harassment and violence.
