On June 29, 2015, the provincial government announced that the general minimum wage in Alberta will increase by $1 as of October 1, 2015, from $10.20 per hour to $11.20 per hour. The goal is to increase the minimum wage in the province to $15 an hour by 2018.
The current changes also affect the minimum wage for liquor servers, which will increase by $1.50 as of October 1, 2015, from $9.20 per hour to $10.70 per hour. The differential rate between the two minimum wages is to be eliminated altogether in 2016.
We will continue to update Alberta employers as further changes are announced.
