The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act was introduced with the goal of achieving complete accessibility throughout Ontario for persons with disabilities. The specific obligations on public and private sector organizations are contained in various regulations which are to be implemented in phases.
As a reminder, the next wave of obligations takes effect January 1, 2012, requiring private sector employers to develop policies with respect to accessibility issues in employment as well as develop policies and train staff on the provision of goods and services to persons with disabilities.
