In May, we announced that Mathews Dinsdale joined Ius Laboris, the world’s premier global network of human resources law firms. We’d like to share some of our answers to questions asked by our clients and friends about this over the last few months.
Founded in 2001, Ius Laboris is a global alliance of human resources law firms. The alliance currently comprises more than 1400 specialist HR lawyers in 49 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Mexico. The member firms are considered leaders in their countries.
Joining Ius Laboris means that our firm is uniquely positioned – not only to service our clients across Canada, but to immediately and seamlessly arrange for service around the world. No matter the jurisdiction, the services are provided by a premier human resources law firm. Through Ius Laboris, our clients may also receive regular updates as to the legal and policy developments in countries in which they operate. We believe that our firm, and our clients, are better able to respond to the globalizing marketplace as a result of our membership in the alliance.
No. Mathews Dinsdale has not merged with any other law firm, and has no plans or desire to do so. All member firms remain 100% independent.
Membership in Ius Laboris gives our firm an advantage in serving clients across international borders. In October 2014, Ius Laboris was recommended in the Financial Times Special Report – Innovative Lawyers for client service. The member firms work together to provide seamless, integrated service across jurisdictions and to promote knowledge of labour and employment law throughout the alliance. For example, our clients with operations in the United States can benefit from the knowledge and experience of Ford Harrison, which provides services to employers across the United States through more than 200 lawyers in 29 offices.
Ius Laboris offers access to the best local HR law experts in 160 cities worldwide, having 24% more ranked employment lawyers (Chambers & Partners, June 2014) in 10% more jurisdictions (Legal 500, July 2014) than any other global HR legal services organization.
You might have noticed this change. We are in the process of rebranding our website, business cards and letterhead. These changes are intended to reflect our membership in Ius Laboris. The member firms of the alliance are committed to co-branding, in the sense of a consistent look and feel. The process is centrally managed to ensure a high quality, consistent appearance and lower costs.
As we remain 100% independent, our membership in the alliance will not result in any increase in the prices of our services. On the contrary, our membership is expected to increase our efficiency in securing global expertise and advice for our clients. We are also able to take advantage of certain shared administrative and support services which are expected to lower our costs.
We are excited to be a part of Ius Laboris and to share the benefits of this membership for our clients. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to contact your Mathews Dinsdale lawyer.
