Minimum Wage in British Columbia to Increase

The government of British Columbia has announced the current minimum wage of $10.45 per hour will be raised on September 15, 2016.  The total amount of the increase has not yet been confirmed.
In March 2015, the province increased the minimum wage by 20 cents and indicated all future increases would be indexed to inflation, as measured by the Consumer Products Index (CPI).  An increase tied to CPI would amount to approximately 20 cents, bringing the minimum wage in British Columbia to $10.65 per hour.   However, the Ministry Responsible for Labour has recently stated discussions are underway to increase the minimum wage beyond the CPI increase.  No formal announcement has yet been made regarding the incremental adjustment beyond the CPI.
As of April 1, 2016 New Brunswick will increase its minimum wage to $10.65 an hour, making British Columbia’s current minimum wage rate the lowest in Canada.
