It has now been one year since the Occupational Health and Safety Act was amended by Bill 168 requiring employers to prepare and implement a policy on workplace violence and harassment. That means for workplaces with more than five regular employees, the OHSA requires the policy to be in written form and posted in a conspicuous place. Thereafter, the OHSA requires employers to review the policy as often as necessary but at least once every year.
This is a reminder that the OHSA requires your organization to review the policy at least once every year. In that regard this is your opportunity to address any gaps in the policy which might have been uncovered during that last year, to consider any changes to the workplace that might affect the effectiveness of the policy and to remind all employees in the workplace about the policy and its requirements.
If you have not done so already, please review and make necessary revisions to your organization’s policy as required under the OHSA. Make sure that in doing so you maintain a record of the review and insert the review date on the documents.
